Thou Art Woman is a community of women who love women and the arts. We crave creative spaces to express and entertain ourselves through poetry, spoken word, storytelling, singing, music, dance and visual arts.
Our premier production, Thou Art Woman, is an event series celebrating LGBTQ (lesbian, bi-sexual, gay, transgender & queer) women and their allies through performance and visual art.
When Thou Art Woman started in 2014, about 50 women attended. We focused on having an ‘open mic’ segment and encouraged anyone from the audience to perform.
It was magical! We finally had a safe space where we could share our creativity and our truth. After 10 successful events, Thou Art Woman is attracting hundreds of attendees, and have expanded to a 3-day weekend of visual and performing arts, mixers, and other inspiring and entertaining experiences.
We know there are only a few places where we can really breathe and be ourselves—without judgment. That’s part of what makes Thou Art Woman so essential… so unique and empowering.
After coming out, event producer Ghenete “G” Wright Muir wanted to create an alternate space for LGBTQ women and allies to connect on a deeper level. G, with the support of friends Nik, PJ, and Niki, began the event which soon grew into a vibrant and vital community.
